The Game of Imitation!
Being
Indian is growing difficult each day, so most of us are converting into
Americans and Europeans. We love our culture so much that we have started
abhorring it. When we make a trip to Massuorie, we think twice to share it but when
it’s a trip to U.S.A or U.K we tell our
friends twenty days before that “hey! Guess what! I am going to U.S.A” and the
other person responds to it “Oh! Lucky you are”. We dare to tell someone that
the bag we are carrying is from some Indian handloom company but we very
proudly tell that “yeah! It’s Versace”. We follow American soaps by heart but we
dare to watch an historical program on Door
Darshan… Oh! How I am even aware of such T.V channel? Many articles written
already on to save our cultures and religions but none wrote on why this
problem is arising. Is it that these countries are developed in much better way? Are the
facilities much better? Do we love their broad minded culture? Or there is much
more freedom there than here in India? The answer to all the questions is ‘Yes! ‘. But my question is: Why are we chasing them?
We
know they are better from us but who told us that they are better? Is it our parents, ancestors or they
themselves? Orientals are superior to occidental since the beginning of the
world but did any of us bothered to know that why is that so? It’s we stupid
Indian who try imitating their every step but we tend to forget that “the moment we become them they became the
other them”. Thus this game of imitation never ends. The best example for
it will be food joints- We all know ‘Mc Donald’s’ was found in 1940 in
California, America but it came to India in
1996 i.e., 56 years later. Dominos founded in 1960,got its craze over India in
the year of 2007.Another very known popular coffee house- ‘Starbucks’ founded
in 1971 Washington, America but arrived at 2012 in Mumbai. We got hold of Mc Donald’s they shifted to
Dominos, we got hold of Dominos they shifted to Starbucks and now since we all
have opted for Starbucks as tentative
alternative… they already have found their new option there, which again we
Indians as fools will appreciate it. The chase to be west/now American (before
European) will never end until we start satisfying ourselves with our own
products. We not only follow their aromas but also the fragrance of fashion,
culture and lifestyle. Talking about cultures- our big Indian fat weddings
never used to have “ring ceremony function” but now we have end up being
complete impostor while having cocktail ceremonies, DJ nights or may be
bachelor’s trip.
I
am not against the westernization definitely but this game of being Americans
completely and forgetting our Indian-self which is our birth-right is
ruthless and unpatriotic. We must watch what is foreign and adopt it if it’s
right at the same time not forgetting our ethical values. Our nation can be one
of them but never better than them until we all start realizing our capability,
hard work, and passion to be us not them.
